Infratest’s CEO, Roland Abold, expects that the open support of US billionaire Elon Musk for the AfD will not fundamentally change the pre-election landscape. “I’m counting on a limited overall effect” he told the Tagesspiegel (Friday edition).
Referring to the current poll value of 19% and a “maximum value” of 25, which was last measured in a survey on the fundamental vote-worthiness of the AfD, Abold explained that the party’s potential is “relatively well exhausted.” He considers it therefore “excluded that the AfD can become the strongest party in the Bundestag election.”
The AfD is already overproportionally strong among men of middle age who care about economic development and appreciate Musk, Abold said. “New voter groups the AfD can hardly win over with him.” Moreover, regarding the party’s economic plans, with which the AfD has the “greatest problems” among the voters, “Musk’s support alone will not be enough to change the assessment of the AfD’s economic competence fundamentally.
