After a car plowed into a crowd in Munich on Thursday morning, the police have provided a more precise number of the injured. According to the authorities, around 20 people are currently being treated by rescue services. No information is available yet on the severity of the injuries and rescue helicopters are in use as a result. Earlier, the police had reported that the driver of the vehicle had been secured at the scene and no further danger was posed by him. The circumstances of the incident, including whether it was an accident or an attack, remained unclear initially.
The incident occurred in the central Maxvorstadt district, where a group of people, reportedly participants in a strike procession by the Verdi trade union, were present. The police were on the scene with strong forces, as the city of Munich has already implemented heightened security measures due to the upcoming Munich Security Conference at the weekend.
