Federal prosecutors have filed charges against an Afghan national alleged to be responsible for a fatal attack on a Verdi union event in Munich. The Federal Public Prosecutor General at the Federal Court of Justice stated they believe the suspect acted on religious motivations. The accused faces charges of murder in two cases, attempted murder in 44 cases, as well as charges of assault, aggravated assault and dangerous interference with road traffic.
On February 13, 2025, the suspect allegedly deliberately drove his vehicle into a crowd attending a union event in downtown Munich. The incident resulted in two fatalities and left 44 others injured, some with life-threatening conditions.
The suspect has been in custody since the incident. The Federal Public Prosecutor General took over the investigation from the Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office in February.
