German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has expressed her condolences after the death of two people due to injuries sustained in the alleged Islamist attack on Thursday.
“It is an infinitely sad news that the suspected Islamist attack in Munich has taken the life of a mother and her two-year-old child” Faeser said on Saturday evening. “We had been holding out hope for their lives. Now, it is a terrible certainty that they succumbed to their severe injuries.”
The perpetrator has “unfathomable inflicted pain” the minister continued. “We mourn with the family, for whom the pain must be immeasurable. And we stand by the side of all who experienced this heinous act: the many wounded, as well as the rescue teams and police officers.”
According to information from the German News Agency, there is currently no indication of further fatalities. Among the approximately three dozen wounded, none are in a critically life-threatening condition, according to investigator sources.
