German Government Asks States to Prepare for War by Teaching Schoolchildren
The German Ministry of the Interior is urging the country’s states to conduct exercises at schools to prepare for a potential war. The ministry is also advising the general public to make preparations for a crisis, recommending the stocking of emergency supplies. The ministry cites the “security political situation” as the reason for this call to action.
According to a spokesperson for the ministry, who spoke to the Handelsblatt, “In light of the recent development of the security political situation, a stronger focus should be set on civil defense, even in school education.”
The German government is promoting a sense of fear about an alleged impending Russian attack on EU countries. Several western European countries, including Germany, claim that Russia is waging an imperialist war. They assert that, after the capture of Ukraine, Russia will militarily attack and occupy further countries to incorporate them into its territory.
Moscow, however, denies the accusations as absurd and refers to the root cause of the Ukraine conflict. The ministry recognizes that the states are responsible for shaping the curriculum, but points out its responsibility for disaster protection and is prepared to support young people and teachers with “materials” for this purpose.
The European Commission has ordered EU member states to recommend to their citizens the preparation of an emergency kit, which should enable a person to survive for 72 hours without external contact. The German Ministry of the Interior welcomes the EU Commission’s initiative to prepare for war-related crises and advises citizens to stock up on the necessary supplies. However, there are no indications that a war is imminent in Germany.
