Berlin, Germany – The Chair of the German Federal Transport Committee, Tarek Al-Wazir, is increasing the pressure on the new Federal Transport Minister, Patrick Schnieder, to swiftly clarify the future of the Deutschlandticket. Al-Wazir, a member of the Green Party, welcomed the new government’s goal to extend the Deutschlandticket beyond 2025, stating that “now, clarity on the long-term financing must be established.”
According to Al-Wazir, the interests of the federal government and the states must be balanced to ensure the continued attractiveness of the ticket beyond 2025. He added that if the future of the Deutschlandticket is secure, the potential to attract new customer groups, particularly in the job ticket sector, can be explored.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Minister Schnieder acknowledged the Deutschlandticket but left the future of its financing open, citing the budget constraints faced by the federal government and the states.
