The recent withdrawal of former Deutsche Bahn manager Dirk Rompf from consideration for the leadership position at Infrago, the infrastructure division, has prompted scrutiny of the selection process and raised questions regarding the role of Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder.
According to comments provided to the “Rheinische Post” by rail expert Matthias Gastel, the situation highlights a broader concern about the suitability of individuals associated with past infrastructure shortcomings for future leadership roles within the organization. Gastel emphasized that appointing individuals with such a track record could jeopardize future successes.
However, the expert’s critique extended beyond the withdrawn candidate. Gastel voiced doubts about Minister Schnieder’s own suitability, citing a perceived lack of consultation and communication as potential stumbling blocks. He suggested that this breakdown in communication has fostered unnecessary uncertainty and instability within Deutsche Bahn. Furthermore, he indicated that a continued lack of effective communication could hinder the implementation of future projects.
