Military Service Model on the Brink of Collapse? New Defense Liaison Officer Warns of Compulsory Service if Troop Strength Fails to Meet Expectations

Berlin, Germany – As the future parliamentary commissioner for the German armed forces, Henning Otte, has expressed his intention to review the planned military service model once it is implemented, with the possibility of switching to a compulsory model if the desired outcome is not achieved.

The CDU politician emphasized that the goal is to create the necessary organizational preconditions to adjust the model in the event of a need for more personnel. The new military service model is expected to come into effect early next year, with the aim of attracting 5,000 volunteers annually to the German Bundeswehr.

As the future parliamentary commissioner, Otte will closely monitor the situation to ensure the military is not overburdened and that it receives the necessary resources to fulfill its tasks, including the defense of the country and its alliances. He identified areas of need, such as modern military capabilities, infrastructure and personnel and believes that significant progress has been made, but there are still deficits that need to be addressed.
