In a decisive vote, the German Bundestag has extended the deployment of the Bundeswehr in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a majority of lawmakers supporting the government’s proposal. The extension of the mission, led by the European Union, was approved by 386 votes in favor, with 188 against and four abstentions.
The Bundeswehr’s continued involvement in the “Eufor Althea” operation will focus on supporting and coordinating the training of the Bosnian armed forces, establishing a secure environment and carrying out leadership, communication, advisory, observation and support tasks. The mission also aims to implement the Dayton Peace Accords of 1995. The deployment of up to 50 soldiers is expected to continue, with the mandate set to expire at the end of June 2026.
