MIGRATION EXPLOSION: German Minister Warns of 'Burdensome' Influx, Demands Stronger Control

German Interior Minister’s Conference Chairman Calls for Stronger Migration Control

The chairman of the German Interior Ministers’ Conference, Ulrich Mäurer, has emphasized the need for a more significant control of migration. Mäurer, the Senator of the Interior in the state of Bremen, expressed his concerns in an interview with the German newspaper “Welt”. According to him, the intake of 600,000 people, as seen in the last two years, is an immense burden for all systems, not only the internal security, but also the education sector, including kindergartens and schools, as well as the housing market.

Mäürer highlighted the pressing issue of violence against women, stating that it is a significant problem for society and he has been advocating for the Spanish model of electronically monitoring convicted offenders through ankle bracelets. This, he believes, would be a significant help for women in stalking and threat situations, allowing them to recognize the proximity of potential attackers through a smartwatch-like device.

The Interior Minister emphasized the need to establish the legal foundations for such a system and he is optimistic that this can be achieved, as the new federal coalition has also committed to implementing this measure. Mäürer has been the Senator of the Interior in Bremen since 2008 and will lead the Interior Ministers’ Conference, taking place in Bremerhaven from June 11 to 13, where the topic of ankle bracelets for offenders will be discussed.
