The Deputy Leader of the CDU’s parliamentary group, Johann Wadephul, has called on the SPD and the Greens to support the proposals on migration and internal security.
“We need to resolve the issues of migration in the democratic center before the AfD continues to profit from the government’s inaction”he told the Frankfurt General Newspaper (Monday edition). “SPD and Greens must also engage with the content of the proposals and cannot hide behind discussions about ‘smoke and mirrors'”Wadephul added.
Over the weekend, his parliamentary group sent the two proposals to the SPD, Greens and FDP parliamentary groups. The FDP has already expressed support, while the criticism from the SPD and Greens has been sharp. Wadephul remains optimistic that the CDU will benefit from the initiatives in migration policy: “With these steps, voters can finally see that we genuinely want a real policy shift in migration policy”he told the FAZ.
