The SPD’s leadership is set to adopt a “Midpoint Guarantee for a safe and social Germany” on Monday, marking the start of the pre-election week in the Bundestag campaign. According to a draft resolution reported by “ntv.de” the party will outline its election promises on key issues such as the economy, social welfare, security and foreign policy, which form the core of its election program.
The resolution emphasizes the SPD’s commitment to the “Midpoint Guarantee” a move aimed at distinguishing the party from the CDU’s chancellor candidate, Friedrich Merz. The SPD accuses Merz of proposing “tax gifts for the super-rich” and a “rollback of the solidarity system.” The draft also alludes to the shared votes of the CDU and AfD on migration policy, stating that Merz would be willing to push these points through with the AfD against the center. The SPD is urging voters to prevent a “cooperation of the conservatives with the right-wing extremists” in the upcoming Bundestag election.
