Union’s Chancellor Candidate Friedrich Merz Receives Support from CSU for Election Fund Boost
At the CSU party convention in Nuremberg, Chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz received backing for the election fund surge from the sister party.
“We agreed from the start: we will ensure it doesn’t happen again in 2021” said CSU Chief Markus Söder, announcing Merz’s speech. “We have achieved that. We have our clear goal of being successful in two weeks for the Union and we have the goal of making you the next Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany” Söder said, looking at Merz.
The CDU chairman himself said that in the past, there had been an “up and down between CDU and CSU” with good and difficult times. Looking at the current situation, he added: “The relationship between CDU and CSU, the cooperation in this Bundestag faction, is rarely better than it is at present.
