Chancellor Friedrich Merz reports feeling refreshed following his summer break, despite multiple interruptions to his time off.
Speaking at the Federal Government’s Open Day on Sunday, he disclosed two trips back to Berlin and one to Washington were necessary. He emphasized these were well-prepared and an unavoidable part of the role, additionally highlighting the efficiency of the Chancellery which he described as a “functioning government centre” representative of the strength of German civil service.
The coming week promises a significantly fuller schedule for the Chancellor. According to a report by “Table Media”, an unscheduled meeting of all CDU and CSU ministers is set for Monday afternoon, with participation expected from CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann and CDU/CSU parliamentary group leader Jens Spahn. Sources suggest the meeting is intended to address the government’s recent challenging start and to initiate discussions regarding key reforms.
