Merz in the Mix?

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has not ruled out the possibility of a government involving the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) with Friedrich Merz. In an interview with the “Berlin Playbock Podcast” of Politico, Scholz stated, “Apart from the AfD, nothing is excluded and that’s exactly what I mean.” When asked if certain individuals would be excluded, the Chancellor replied, “That would be absurd in Germany.”

Currently, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) is debating whether to openly show willingness to form a government with the CDU, but only without Merz. Scholz continues to believe that Merz will not become Chancellor, emphasizing the importance of the citizens determining the direction of the country. “Therefore, I have requested new elections and a new trust in a government led by me” he said.
