Merkel's Party Vows to Fire Up 50 New Power Plants if Elected!

In a recent interview with the German news portal T-Online, the CDU’s chancellor candidate, Friedrich Merz, emphasized the Union’s plans to invest in additional gas power plants in the event of a federal election victory. Merz stated, “We must build 50 gas power plants in Germany as quickly as possible, and they must be connected to the grid immediately.” He added, “As the weather is currently unfavorable, and the country is once again in a dark period, and is facing the highest electricity prices in years at the power exchange.”

Merz also mentioned that the Union would not rule out the option of nuclear energy, leaving open the possibility of reactivating the shut-down nuclear power plants. “We will also leave open the possibility of putting the idled nuclear power plants back online” he said, adding that the likelihood of this happening would “unfortunately be getting smaller by the week.” The CDU chief criticized the previous government’s decision to shut down the last three nuclear power plants, labeling it a “fatal decision” and a “serious strategic mistake.” According to Merz, this move, in particular, under the current green economics minister, is and remains a “fiasco.
