Merkel Says No More Huge Books

Following the release of her highly anticipated autobiography, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has stated she does not intend to undertake a writing project of similar scope again.

In remarks to the “Neuen Osnabrücker Zeitung”, Merkel described the process of writing “Freiheit” (Freedom), a 700-page memoir co-authored with her former chief of staff, Beate Baumann, as an “immense effort”. She emphasized that the project was a unique undertaking and would not be repeated in the same form, though she did not rule out writing shorter pieces in the future.

Merkel expressed considerable respect for journalists and writers who regularly produce content for newspapers, acknowledging the consistent dedication required for such work. The autobiography, detailing her time in office and reflecting on broader themes of freedom and democracy, has generated significant public interest and critical analysis.
