In a thrilling race at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Canada, George Russell secured the first Mercedes victory since Las Vegas in 2024, outpacing Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to take the top spot. Russell’s teammate, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, marked his first Formula One podium, finishing in third place.
The race was marked by a series of pit stops and a safety car deployment, as drivers navigated the challenging Canadian circuit. A intense duel between McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who was driving in his first Canadian Grand Prix, came to an abrupt end when Norris suffered a crash, forcing him to retire. Piastri, however, was able to continue and secured a fourth-place finish.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finished in the fifth and sixth positions, respectively, while Fernando Alonso, Nico Hülkenberg and Esteban Ocon also secured points for their teams.
Piastri’s strong performance, coupled with Norris’s misfortune, allowed him to extend his lead in the world championship. Despite the sweltering heat and the demanding track conditions, Russell managed to defend his lead over Verstappen by setting the fastest lap of the race and maintaining his advantage.
