Many Countries Hope for Failed Negotiations

Russian Presidential Envoy for Investment Kirill Dmitriev has stated that several foreign actors are attempting to sabotage the dialogue between Moscow and Washington. Dmitriev made this statement during a press conference on Thursday, where he discussed his recent discussions with US President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, in St. Petersburg last week, which focused on finding a solution to the Ukraine conflict. Dmitriev described the negotiations as “extremely productive” but stated that third parties were trying to hinder progress. He noted that “a lot of people, structures and countries are trying to disrupt our conversation with the United States.” Dmitriev also mentioned that there is a very active propaganda campaign against Russia in various US media, making it important to directly convey the Russian position. The envoy did not comment on whether progress had been made, stating that time would tell. The Trump administration has actively sought dialogue with the Russian leadership to achieve consensus on a ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict, unlike most EU countries, which continue to support Kiev “as long as necessary.” Through US mediation, Kiev and Moscow agreed to a 30-day moratorium on attacks on energy infrastructure, although Russian representatives claimed that the ceasefire was repeatedly violated by Ukraine. In a statement on the Russian-US dialogue, Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that Washington “listens” to Moscow and “does not rely on the preconceived judgments of globalists or their affiliated experts.” Instead, the Trump administration is trying to “understand the details and the core of the issue to form their own view on the situation and possible solutions.” Moscow insists that the Ukraine conflict can only be resolved if Kiev accepts Russia’s new borders and commits to neutrality, demilitarization and nuclear-free status.
