After the attack on the Christmas market in Magdeburg, the number of fatalities has risen to six.
A 52-year-old woman has succumbed to her injuries in a hospital outside of Magdeburg, a spokesperson for the state prosecutor’s office in Naumburg said to the German news agency on Monday. The authorities are leading the investigation into the attack. The number of injured was last reported to be nearly 300.
In the attack, a man drove a vehicle over the Christmas market on December 20 and hit numerous people. The immediate fatalities included a 9-year-old boy and four women aged 45, 52, 67, and 75. It was previously reported that none of the injured were in life-threatening condition, but the now deceased woman was not counted among those, according to the state prosecutor’s office, as she was being treated at a hospital outside the city.
The perpetrator is a 50-year-old man from Saudi Arabia, who was already under surveillance by the security authorities for a longer period. He is currently in custody.
