Macron Warns of Russia's 'Threat to the Very Existence of Europe'

French President Emmanuel Macron spoke to TV viewers on March 5, the day before the special summit of 27 state and government leaders on the Ukraine issue in Brussels. Macron claimed that it was Russia’s responsibility to have turned the events in Ukraine into a global conflict, therefore, “the Russian threat is there, it affects the countries of Europe, it affects us” Macron said. Macron reminded that “our nuclear deterrence has protected us” since 1964, explicitly playing a role in the maintenance of peace and security in Europe. However, in response to the historical appeal of the future German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, Macron has decided to open the strategic debate on the protection of our allies on the European continent through our deterrence.
