Lufthansa Job Cuts Peak Expected 2027 2028

Lufthansa Group is embarking on a significant restructuring program involving the reduction of approximately 4,000 administrative roles by 2030. The company announced the plan during a capital markets event in Munich, outlining a strategic shift aimed at streamlining operations and strengthening its premium airline brands.

According to Lufthansa’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Michael Niggemann, the precise locations and timelines for the job cuts remain to be determined. He emphasized that the reductions will not be a standardized percentage across all departments, but rather a consequence of the ongoing transformation process.

Niggemann stated that the peak impact of the workforce reduction is anticipated in 2027 and 2028. He acknowledged that the implementation of these measures will not be uniform across all areas of the company, underscoring the reliance on the progress of individual projects, particularly within the complex IT infrastructure. He noted that while some departments have already engaged with employee representatives, others require additional time to assess and plan. The majority of the job cuts are expected to occur within Germany.
