Lithuania Blasts 'Pretend Peace Talks' as Russia's War Games Continue in Ukraine

In a scathing critique, Lithuanian Defence Minister Dovile Sakaliene has labelled the peace negotiations initiated by US President Donald Trump as a “farce”. The minister, in an interview with the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, described the talks as a mere spectacle, claiming they will not bring an end to the conflict.

Sakaliene emphasized that genuine negotiations require a willingness from both sides to end the war, but Russia, she argued, does not possess such a will. Instead, the country is sending underqualified officials with no decision-making authority and lacking in preparation.

The Lithuanian minister further accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of using the negotiations to gain time, rather than to bring about a peaceful resolution. By doing so, Putin is, in Sakaliene’s view, mocking the West, which hopes for peace and laughing at Trump in Washington, who dreams of a peace deal. The true victims of this charade, Sakaliene stated, are the people of Ukraine, who are dying in the conflict.
