Linnemann eyes Union's parliamentary group vice-chair role

Carsten Linnemann is reportedly set to become the additional deputy chairman of the Union fraction in the Bundestag. According to the “Spiegel”, CDU General Secretary Friedrich Merz has provided his support for this position. Linnemann is expected to be responsible for the topics of work and social issues within the fraction, which he also played a significant role in negotiating during the coalition talks with the SPD. Linnemann recently announced that he does not want to become a minister and will continue to serve as the CDU General Secretary. According to the “Spiegel”, he would retain this position even if elected as the fraction vice-chairman. The Union fraction is expected to determine its fraction board in the upcoming week, with only the new fraction chairman Jens Spahn and the new First Parliamentary Spokesman Steffen Bilger having been elected so far.
