Linnemann Defends Proposed Pension Plan

The proposed “active retirement” initiative, designed to incentivize continued employment for individuals past the statutory retirement age, has been defended by Carsten Linnemann, General Secretary of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). Linnemann, in comments to the “Rhinische Post” characterized the current draft legislation as a “significant first step.

He emphasized the potential benefits of the scheme, suggesting it could leverage the experience, knowledge and continued willingness to work of older citizens. According to Linnemann, the program offers a valuable contribution to addressing the ongoing shortage of skilled workers across various sectors.

The initiative, spearheaded by the federal government, aims to allow individuals who have reached the standard retirement age to earn up to €2,000 per month tax-free through continued employment. Linnemann believes this will foster a shift in societal attitudes, recognizing and rewarding sustained productivity. He described the active retirement plan as a “key component” in achieving broader economic goals.
