In a recent interview with ARD, Christian Lindner, the leader of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) for the German federal election, expressed his doubts about the current pricing of the Deutschlandticket, a new public transportation ticket introduced in Germany. When asked if he would maintain the current price, Lindner replied, “No, not at the current price. It’s called the Deutschlandticket and doesn’t have a euro figure in its name.” He emphasized that the true innovation of the ticket is not its price, but rather its digital booking feature and the ability to use it nationwide, thereby overcoming the “tariff chaos.”
The Deutschlandticket was initially priced at 49 euros per month, but was later increased to 58 euros. The future of the ticket, including its continuation and financing, will be decided by the next German government.
