Leverkusen Downs Frankfurt Despite Being Down a Man

Bayer Leverkusen secured a crucial home victory against Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday evening, winning the Bundesliga match 3-1.

The visitors took an early lead, with Alex Grimaldo scoring directly from a free-kick in the 10th minute. Patrik Schick then extended Leverkusen’s advantage, converting a penalty just before halftime (45+4).

Frankfurt improved their performance after the break and managed to pull a goal back through Can Uzun, who headed in from a corner in the 52nd minute.

Despite being reduced to ten men after Robert Andrich received a red card in the 59th minute, Bayer Leverkusen held on to their lead, demonstrating a resilient defensive performance. Ezequiel Fernández later received a second yellow card, resulting in a red, further depleting the Frankfurt lineup. The visitors pushed for an equalizer but were repeatedly thwarted by Leverkusen’s solid defense and goalkeeper Mark Flekken.

In added time, Grimaldo capitalized on the opportunity to extend Leverkusen’s lead to 3-1, sealing the victory.

The result marks a positive start to the season for Leverkusen and represents a first defeat of the campaign for Frankfurt. The victory was achieved in the debut match for new manager Kasper Hjulmand.
