German Left Party’s Chairperson Calls for Joint Strategies for a Red-Red-Green Coalition
The chairperson of the German Left Party’s parliamentary faction, Heidi Reichinnek, has urged the Greens and the Social Democratic Party to develop common strategies for a potential red-red-green coalition. In an interview with the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, Reichinnek emphasized the need for progressive forces to think about how to achieve majorities in the next four years.
Reichinnek criticized the current situation, where the Left Party and the Greens are perceived as competing for the same voters. “We’re losing each other’s voters, unfortunately” she said. Instead, the Left and the Greens should focus on building a broader social base for their policies. According to recent polls, the Left Party has surpassed the Greens in popularity.
Reichinnek also sharply criticized the Social Democratic Party, stating that they seem uncertain about their goals. “The SPD should clarify what it wants and needs to do and do so soon” she said. Reichinnek expressed concerns that the SPD’s current cooperation with the black-yellow government might lead to a loss of its identity and values.
In the context of a “progressive majority in the country” Reichinnek expressed the hope that the SPD would rediscover its path and reorient itself in the next four years.
