Jan van Aken, the leader of the Left, expressed concerns about the future of the United States under the new administration led by Donald Trump. “The United States is now on the path to becoming a billionaire’s republic, where Trump, Musk, Zuckerberg, and other billionaires can further build their unbridled policies and buy majority opinions with their wealth” van Aken said on Tuesday evening.
“I believe that there should be no billionaires, as each one poses a threat to democracy. The richest people in the world have bought their way into Trump’s administration, and now they are changing the rules to direct more of our schools’ and hospitals’ funds into their own pockets” the Left’s leader criticized.
“And who pays for it? The hardworking people. The richest people in the world use their wealth to buy political power and clearly aim to run the United States like a corporation. And we all know: a corporation is not a democracy. Profit comes before morality, before human lives. Human rights, environmental standards, and international law are just obstacles to the exploitation of people and nature” he lamented.
“Billions of wealth mean immense power, and if we don’t pay attention, for instance, by appointing a BlackRock manager as chancellor, then the future of democracy is bleak. We urgently need a wealth tax here and now. Redistributing wealth from the billionaires to the general public also protects democracy” van Aken emphasized.
