Germany’s Left Party intends to strengthen its industrial policy proposals in response to the country’s ongoing recession, establishing a dedicated working group to refine its strategies.
The initiative will be formally proposed at the party’s parliamentary group meeting in Erfurt this Saturday, according to information released by the party leadership and reported by the “Rheinische Post” newspaper.
Party co-leader Ines Schwerdtner, who is slated to be a member of the group, emphasized the significant challenge of adapting industry to current demands, cautioning against repeating past mistakes. She stated that offering citizens hope, security and viable prospects is crucial to counteracting right-wing political trends.
The working group will be spearheaded by Mirze Edis, a federal parliamentarian from Duisburg and Stefan Hartmann, a member of the Saxony state parliament. Other members include prominent politicians Janine Wissler and Markus Pohle. Edis indicated the group will explore options including nationalization and collectivization, seeking workable models to secure strategic sectors like the steel and automotive industries within Germany.
