Left Party Membership Hits Record High

Germany’s Left Party (Die Linke) has reached a record high in membership numbers since its founding in 2007. As of today, the party reports an unprecedented total of 117,868 members, according to party co-leader Ines Schwerdtner, who revealed the figure to the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” in its Saturday edition.

While the rate of growth has slowed somewhat from the surge experienced around the federal election, membership continues to increase positively, Schwerdtner stated.

With upcoming local and state elections on the horizon, the focus is now on integrating these new members into political work at the local level and expanding the party’s presence in areas where it previously had limited or no representation, she explained. Schwerdtner also highlighted the continued support for the party’s policies, citing stable polling results as evidence.
