Left Party Leader Accuses Coalition Agreement of Breaching EU Law on Migration and Citizen's Allowance

Jan van Aken, the leader of the Left Party, has expressed concerns regarding the provisions on migration and basic income in the coalition agreement between the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). Van Aken believes that these provisions amount to legal violations. He stated on Monday that the statement “from tomorrow at 6:45 AM, no one will be allowed into the country anymore” is a blatant legal violation and not possible under EU law. Van Aken emphasized that every person coming to the German border has the right to be examined for an asylum procedure. Additionally, he pointed out that the coalition agreement proposes a complete revocation of basic income for recipients. Van Aken believes that the Federal Constitutional Court has already ruled that this is not permissible, as even unemployed individuals have a right to a minimum existence. He argues that the announcement of legal violations specifically targeting basic income recipients and migration is a form of scapegoat politics. Overall, van Aken believes that the agreement does not provide any social security.
