LEFT LEANING: The Red Surge: 28,349 New Members in 5 Weeks - A Party on the Rise!

According to a report by the German newspaper “Spiegel”, the Left Party has seen a significant increase in new members following the federal election. As of March, the party’s membership stands at 109,559, with the final numbers still to be confirmed. This is an increase of around 28,349 members since the end of February, when the party had 81,210 members.

Other parties, including the Free Democratic Party (FDP) and the Alternative for Germany (AfD), have also reported an increase in membership. The FDP has approximately 69,000 members, with numbers rising since the election. The AfD, meanwhile, claims to be experiencing a “never-before-seen influx of new members”, although it has not provided concrete figures.

The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) reports membership growth, primarily in local branches, with the exact numbers only available in the following month. As of February, the CDU had 365,425 members. The Social Democratic Party (SPD) has seen around 7,500 online sign-ups since the start of the year, while the Greens, who had 168,000 members prior to the election, have not provided recent membership numbers.
