Berlin’s former Culture Senator Klaus Lederer has warned the newly appointed Culture Minister Wolfram Weimer of a potential cultural conflict. Lederer stated in an interview with “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” that “cultural politics is infrastructure politics. As experienced during the Covid pandemic, it is about the social and organizational prerequisites for work, which the Basic Law protects as free.” He expressed hope that in the upcoming years, cultural politics will focus on improving the infrastructure for artistic production and participation rather than identity politics, European complaints and cultural conflicts. Lederer added that the current signs indicate a less favorable situation.
