Sahra Wagenknecht, the founder of the Left, has expressed her displeasure at the election endorsement of the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov.
Lavrov, in a press conference in Moscow, praised the Left and the AfD, stating that there was “a lot of sense” in their statements. He specifically mentioned Wagenknecht by name on multiple occasions.
In response, Wagenknecht reiterated her criticism of Russia’s war in Ukraine, while also reiterating her demand for an end to the arms deliveries to Ukraine. She proposed a halt in arms deliveries if Russia agrees to a ceasefire at the current front lines and the start of peace negotiations.
Wagenknecht sharply criticized Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius for their support of further aid to Ukraine, worth three billion euros. She deemed this decision irresponsible, stating that it was prolonging the conflict and resulting in unnecessary loss of life.
Wagenknecht warned strongly against the deployment of German soldiers to the Ukraine to secure a peace resolution, stating that the Ukraine needs security guarantees, but these should be provided by neutral powers. She specifically mentioned Brazil, China, India, and Turkey as neutral powers that could provide such guarantees.
According to Wagenknecht, German soldiers should not be stationed at the Ukrainian-Russian border.
