A major wildfire has broken out on the California Pacific coast near Los Angeles. According to the police, evacuations have been ordered for 30,000 residents. At least 13,000 buildings are reportedly threatened by the fire.
The affected area is primarily the Pacific Palisades in the west of Los Angeles. The fire department said that the firefighting efforts there continue to be a major challenge. The wildfire has spread over 2,921 hectares and is “0 percent contained” as it was stated. Strong gusty winds of up to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h) are expected later in the day, which could lead to further spread of the fire.
In addition to the fire in the Palisades, two more hotspots in the Los Angeles County have been engulfed: a 100-hectare fire north of San Fernando and one in Altadena, which has grown to 1,000 hectares within a few hours.
