Following a Russian airstrike targeting Kyiv, including the Ukrainian government headquarters, Mayor Vitali Klitschko has cautioned against a potential escalation of the conflict by Russia. Speaking to “Bild” Klitschko characterized the attack as bearing a clear political message from Moscow.
“In my view, it is no coincidence that Putin has attacked a government building for the first time in three years” he stated. “The whole world must recognize: Putin wants to further escalate the war and is not ready for a diplomatic solution.
He pointed to the strike on the Cabinet of Ministers building in Kyiv, noting that it represented an attack on a facility previously considered a red line. Smoke was observed rising from the building Sunday morning, marking the first instance of a government building in Kyiv being targeted since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
