Kursk Counteroffensive Unleashed!

In the Russian region of Kursk, Ukrainian troops appear to have gone back on the offensive. “Kursk, good news, Russia gets what it deserves” wrote the head of the Ukrainian president’s office, Andriy Yermak, on Telegram on Sunday, without providing further details.

Earlier, there were Russian reports of new Ukrainian attacks. The Russian news agency Interfax also reported on a counterattack by Ukrainian forces, which, according to the report, was repelled. Several armored combat vehicles are said to have been destroyed in the process.

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the attacks as well. In total, two Ukrainian attack groups were repelled, it said. The operation against the Ukrainians in Kursk will continue.

Ukraine had taken several towns in the Kursk Oblast in an unexpected August 2024 offensive. Russia then launched a counteroffensive, which, as of late, has apparently made little progress. The focus of the Russians remains on the eastern Ukraine. Since the end of October, North Korean soldiers are also said to be fighting in Kursk on the Russian side.
