Russian Forces Seize Key Logistics Hub in Eastern Ukraine, Ukrainian Troops in Disarray
Kurachowo, a crucial logistics hub, has fallen under the control of Russian forces, located approximately 50 kilometers west-northwest of Donetsk. The Ukrainian military appears to have either been defeated or forced to retreat from the industrial area, the last stronghold of Ukrainian units in the city and a hotly contested region.
According to WarGonzo, a military journalism project led by war correspondent Semjon Pegow, the battles for the city have been long and intense, with the Ukrainian garrison, previously ordered to hold its positions, now seemingly in retreat.
“The fights for the city have been ongoing for a long time, and at the same time, the city’s periphery has been redeployed” Pegow said. “The Ukrainian garrison, which had received an order to hold its positions, seems to have withdrawn. The probability of being trapped in a further pocket forced the Ukrainians to leave their positions.”
Just hours before the new year, war correspondent Yuri Kotenok reported that the area was currently being combed for any remaining enemy forces.
Video material from the scene shows Russian forces, part of the 5th Brigade, raising the Russian flag over the Kurachowo thermal power plant, the highest point in the city. Similar footage is also emerging from other industrial sites in the area.
Separately, the Russian flag was also seen being raised at the city’s westernmost outskirts, documented on video.
