Kukies Rules Out Deutsche Bahn Top Job

Former German Finance Minister Jörg Kukies has stated he does not intend to pursue the position of Chief Executive Officer at Deutsche Bahn. “That role should be filled by someone with expertise in the field and experience in rail and logistics” he told the German magazine “Der Spiegel”.

The announcement follows a statement on Thursday by Federal Minister of Transport Patrick Schnieder, confirming the early termination of the contract of current Deutsche Bahn CEO Richard Lutz. Following this news, Kukies’ name was circulated among a number of potential successors to Lutz.

Kukies previously served as State Secretary in both the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Federal Chancellery and briefly held the position of Federal Finance Minister following the dissolution of the governing coalition. Prior to his career in politics, he worked for US investment bank Goldman Sachs, most recently as Head of Germany.
