Kretschmann Abandons Ship, Stands with Habeck!

In a move that has sparked internal debate within the Green party, the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg, Winfried Kretschmann, has publicly backed Robert Habeck’s ten-point plan for a “security offensive”. Kretschmann, in an interview with the Tagesspiegel, expressed his support for Habeck’s proposals, saying, “I welcome these suggestions very much. They tackle the problems with clear and practical approaches and offer a great basis for constructive discussions between the democratic parties. I believe that these proposals can be made majority-capable across party lines.”

Habeck’s plan, which has drawn criticism from within the party, includes a call for a full enforcement of arrest warrants and the deportation of “non-German danger posed individuals”. The plan also advocates for limiting irregular migration.

In contrast, the Green Youth had published its own ten-point plan, which prioritized “security, integration and humanity” in migration policy. The two plans differ significantly.

Baden-Württemberg’s Finance Minister, Danyal Bayaz, also expressed his support for Habeck’s proposals, stating, “It’s not enough to just say what doesn’t work. Habeck shows with his proposals that he is still working on compromises in the democratic middle.” Bayaz added that the party should unite behind this signal, emphasizing that Germany is an open immigration country where integration can be successfully designed. “However, for this to work, we must also limit and better control irregular migration” he said.
