Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director, Lars Ricken, has indicated there’s no immediate urgency surrounding discussions regarding a contract extension for head coach Niko Kovac.
Addressing recent inquiries, Ricken told “Kicker” that the timing of the questions is noteworthy, contrasting with previous criticism received for the initial contract awarded to Kovac, which runs until 2026. He suggested a premature extension following the 34th matchday would be equally problematic.
Ricken emphasized that a significant level of trust has developed between the club and the coach over recent months. “Everything fits perfectly between us” he stated, highlighting a relaxed approach to the situation.
He confirmed ongoing dialogue while explicitly dismissing speculation regarding timelines or formal negotiations. “We will not be guided by public debate and are taking our time” Ricken added, emphasizing a focus on daily interactions rather than announcing specific milestones.
