Bundestagspräsidentin Julia Klöckner (CDU) has proposed Paul Göttke as the new director of the German Bundestag. The board will decide on the proposal on May 7, according to the Bundestag. The change of office is planned for May 12. Göttke has been working in various capacities in the Bundestag for 20 years. He began his career as a parliamentary secretary and office manager for a member of parliament and joined the Bundestag administration in 2006. There, he worked in the European department, which was established by the then Bundestag President Norbert Lammert (CDU). Currently, Göttke is the deputy director of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group. Klöckner said that Göttke’s extensive experience in both the administration and the parliamentary groups makes him well suited to drive the modernization of the Bundestag administration. She thanked the outgoing director Michael Schäfer for his work and support.
