Klingbeil: Ministries Must Slash Budgets for 2025

Bundesfinanzminister Lars Klingbeil of the SPD is calling for all departments to submit budget cuts for the 2025 budget. As the Finance Minister, he stated in an interview with the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” that he will be urging each ministry to present savings. He warns against leaning back because of the 500 billion euro infrastructure special fund and the exclusion of defense spending from the debt brake. Klingbeil promises to present a budget that is consistent and well-calculated. He believes that the constitutional amendment on the debt brake has created room for the coalition to invest in the future of the country, moving forward to make Germany strong, rather than to plug budget holes. According to the Vice Chancellor, the previous government would not have been broken if they had these larger borrowing options. He states that the coalition must also cut in other areas.
