The CDU held a small party meeting in Berlin on Monday. Party leader Friedrich Merz opened the event in the early afternoon. The so-called Bundesausschuss will mainly approve the coalition agreement between the Union and the SPD. Merz will address the Bundesausschuss around 2 pm and advocate for the coalition agreement. Afterwards, a discussion will follow. Before that, Franziska Hoppermann will be elected as the new Bundesschatzmeisterin.
Merz will also publicly present the seven ministers of his party for the new federal cabinet. The names were already published in advance. According to the information, Thorsten Frei will be the head of the Federal Chancellor’s Office, Party Vice President Karin Prien will be the Federal Minister for Education, Family, Seniors, Women and Youth and Johann Wadephul will be the Foreign Minister. The former Bundestag member Katherina Reiche will be the Federal Minister for Economy and Energy. Patrick Schnieder will take over the transport portfolio, Nina Warken the health portfolio. Additionally, manager Karsten Wildberger will be the Federal Minister for Digitalization and State Modernization.
Meanwhile, the CSU will be represented in the cabinet by Alexander Dobrindt (Interior), Alois Rainer (Agriculture) and Dorothee Bär (Research).
