KBA Probes Mysterious Braking Issues

The German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) is investigating issues with the driver assistance systems of the US electric car manufacturer Tesla. According to the German traffic authority’s statement to the “Handelsblatt” (Friday edition), the investigation is focused on phantom braking, which refers to the sudden and unexplained braking of the vehicles.

“A spokesperson for the KBA stated that the authority is currently investigating the matter” said a spokesperson for the “Handelsblatt”. The spokesperson declined to provide information on the scope of the investigation, the number of potentially affected vehicles and any findings so far. “If necessary, the KBA will take suitable measures at a given time” the spokesperson added.

According to the newspaper, tests are currently being conducted at the Flensburg authority on the emergency braking and other assistance systems of Tesla vehicles, but these are not yet complete, it was stated.
