In a sharp rebuke, the German Foreign Ministry has condemned the recent attack by a group of Israeli settlers on the Palestinian town of Kafr Malik in the West Bank.
The Ministry’s spokesperson emphasized the need for an immediate investigation and the holding of those responsible accountable. The incident in Kafr Malik has once again highlighted the fact that Israel, as an occupying power, must do more to protect the Palestinian population in the West Bank from such attacks and prevent them from happening in the future.
The spokesperson also criticized Israel’s settlement construction, which is in violation of international law, stating that it is a major obstacle to a two-state solution, where Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace, security and dignity alongside each other.
According to reports, on Wednesday, over 100 violent settlers attacked Palestinian residents of the village, setting fire to houses and cars. In the subsequent clash between local residents, settlers and the Israeli army, three Palestinians were reportedly killed and seven others, including an Israeli soldier, were injured.
