Israel's Envoy Praises US President's Bold Moves

Israel’s Ambassador to Germany, Ron Prosor, has praised the Middle East policy of US President Donald Trump, including his threats. “It’s about a paradigm shift and the pressure is having an effect” Prosor told the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland.

According to Prosor, the Palestinian Authority has announced a halt to the “martyr’s fund” payments to families of attackers, a move he attributes to Trump’s pressure. The ambassador believes that Trump has delivered two key messages, both of which are accurate. “The message to the West is that the current approaches have failed and a new way is needed. The message to the Arab states is that they must be part of the solution, not the problem” Prosor said.

Prosor emphasizes the need for Arab states to take a more active role in resolving the Middle East conflict. “They can’t just sit in the audience like Statler and Waldorf in the Muppet show, commenting on the show without being part of it” he said.

Regarding the proposal by US President Donald Trump to resettle Gaza residents in other countries, Prosor said that critics of the plan must provide an alternative. “It’s unclear what, how and with whom this would be implemented, but it’s a complex issue that requires negotiations.”

The Israeli ambassador also warned of the need for caution in dealing with the new power holders in Syria, who have taken over from the long-time dictator Bashar al-Assad. “What we see in Syria is a beginning, but we must be very careful. The new power holders in Syria come from the Islamic State. A tiger does not suddenly become a cat. I warn against blind enthusiasm, which the West is showing now” Prosor said. He also drew a lesson from the rise and fall of Assad, saying, “This should be a lesson, not premature congratulations with laurel wreaths.
