The Israeli Ambassador to Germany, Ron Prosor, has defended the killing of Al Jazeera employee Anas al-Sharif in a targeted airstrike, accusing both the network and the journalist of incitement following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. “Those who perpetrate terror against Israel must know that they have no immunity” Prosor stated Tuesday in an interview with the television channel “Welt”. Israel alleges that the journalist was a leader of a Hamas terrorist cell.
The ambassador promised further investigation into the deaths of the six other individuals also killed in the strike, stating, “As is always the case with us, we will investigate the matter”. When asked whether such an operation could accept the deaths of innocents, Prosor responded, “The normal answer is, of course, no”. He continued, “But we must not forget – and one forgets this when looking at the situation so one-sidedly – that civilians were used as human shields in schools, in hospitals, in mosques”. He asserted that Israel could not allow this to happen.
Prosor stated Israel has been in a state of conflict for nearly two years. He added, “I believe that people outside Israel do not truly understand what is happening within Israeli society. We have learned one thing: we can no longer downplay this ideology”.
