Iranian Regime Critic Nasrin Sotoudeh Sees Regime Change as More Likely in the Face of Israeli Airstrikes
In an exclusive interview, Nasrin Sotoudeh, a prominent Iranian regime critic and winner of the Alternative Nobel Prize and the EU Human Rights Prize, has expressed her belief that a regime change in Iran is now more likely, following the recent Israeli airstrikes. According to Sotoudeh, the Iranian leadership has lost a significant amount of influence and currently appears powerless.
Sotoudeh is adamant that a large majority of the Iranian population rejects the current political system in the country. “We must somehow bring this regime down” she said, adding that military pressure can weaken a ruling system. However, she emphasized the risks associated with any form of protest, stating that if the regime is not overthrown and instead regains stability, the consequences of any resistance could be more severe than in the past.
Despite her criticism of the Iranian regime, Sotoudeh condemned the Israeli airstrikes on her country, saying, “I cannot accept Israel’s policy.” She questioned the high death toll of innocent civilians, including children, in Gaza, Lebanon and now Iran, given the advanced capabilities of the Israeli military.
